Well let's just say "safe" alternative. Mammography involves high doses of radiation to the area of study. The smallest possible dose from a screening mammogram done with the best possible equipment = 340 millirads. (compare this to a chest xray= 16 millirads where 1 millirad reaches the breast tissue). (Lee, John "What your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer.")
Our doctors at Lake Pleasant Chiropractic have been firm advocates for testing methods which limit or exclude dangerous radiation to their patients. They finally found a reliable mobile company to partner with in providing thermography: The Longevity Center.
No Squeezing or Compressing of the Breast.
Results can be available within 1-3 business days (results are read by qualified medical doctor.)
Convenient, time efficient and comfortable.
Initial Breast scans are priced at $195. Follow up tests: $125.
Testing is typically the last Monday each month in our office. Our next test date is Monday November 23rd from 9am-1pm.
Appointments are already booking up so please call us soon at 623-LP CHIRO to schedule your appointment.
Each time a woman gets a mammogram, she increases her chances of getting breast cancer by about 5%. Any percent increase is a risk you can't afford to take.

Today, more and more people are questioning the rationale behind the flu shot pandemonium. And rightfully so, we should always question what we read and view in the media. This year, flu shots are being broadcasted around the world, both seasonal and now the new H1N1 vaccine. You can't walk into a local mart without being bombarded with 'Get Your Flu Shots Here" signs. Yet, people are also dying and suffering life altering disabilities shortly after receiving the vaccine.
We are urging you to read this excerpt from mercola.com. If you haven't yet, please log onto www.mercola.com and sign up for his free newsletter.
60-Minutes’ Story Also Highlighted Bacterial Infection as Flu Tragedy
Their segment, which aired last Sunday, did ask some hard questions to the Assistant Surgeon General. But they didn't ask why CDC officials persist in telling the public that this H1N1 strain of influenza is quite dangerous when the experience of those in the southern hemisphere (which just finished their flu season) is in direct conflict with what the CDC is telling the American people.
And, just like most of the mainstream media, 60-Minutes did not ask some of the most essential questions that need to be answered if you are to understand what is really going on with this "pandemic."
The issue of coexisting bacterial infections is one of those questions that need to be looked at more closely.
Their segment followed the story of a young high school football player who was infected with the H1N1 virus, received some form of medication for his flu symptoms, and then quickly developed a life-threatening staph infection in his lungs.
However, no questions were asked about what type of medication he received, even though it was clear that, after recovering slightly, he then quickly deteriorated after receiving the medication.
There was also no mention of whether the teen had already been vaccinated for seasonal or H1N1 influenza, either recently or in the past years.
A Canadian preliminary study is provocative in that it suggests that those who have gotten seasonal influenza vaccine in the past may be at greater risk for getting H1N1 and having complications.
The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is calling for a comparison of vaccinated vs. unvaccinated individuals for all health outcomes, and I believe it would be prudent to do so.
After all, in order for anyone to make an informed decision about vaccines, you need to have certain facts at hand, not conjecture stating that something is "believed to be safe" even though it has never been studied!"
And mercola.com has much more information to read in order to educate yourself before making the decision on what to do about protecting yourself.
DR. DIAS-ZAIR AND DR. ZAIR'S 7 STRATEGIES FOR CREATING HEALTH AND KEEPING YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM FUNCTIONING OPTIMALLY.
1. Get plenty of regular EXERCISE! Among other things, exercise improves your circulation and assists the body's immune cells in recognizing and attacking foreign threats, ie: viruses.
2. Get sufficient SLEEP! You won't be able to fight the flu if your adrenals (stress handling glands) are overworked. Let your body rest and rejuvenate.
3. Eat animal based omega 3 fatty acids. Look for a high quality and safe source. We recommend oils from Metagenics, Standard Process and Xymogen, available at qualified health professional offices.
4. Optimize your blood Vitamin D levels. Ideally you want to have blood levels of 60-80. Your doctor should be able to send you for a simple blood screen or if you are a patient, you can be referred for a test at a low discount fee through our lab co-op. Vitamin D is one of the most important nutrients for building a strong immune system to prevent and fight infection. During stressful times the doctors take Vit D3 oil at high doses plus try to get exposed to the sun's "life giving" rays for at least 20 minutes per day.
5. Avoid sugar at all costs! Sugar breeds infections and attracts cancer (Warburg effect. Read labels and search for sugars in all forms. (Our Creating Wellness Club members are currently developing this skill.
6. Don't allow your stress to consume you! When we live in a chronic stress response, the body shuts down many valuable systems especially your immunity.
7. Finally...Get Adjusted by your Chiropractor. Spinal adjustments are natural, valuable ways to regulate the nervous system by directly aligning the vertebrae. Our patients notice less colds and flu's, a higher level or productivity at work and home.. and to us, they seem like happier people!
For more information, call our office at (623) LP CHIRO (572-4476)to set up a consult or inquire about our informative and lively discussions at our Creating Wellness Club.

Is that the question? Or is it "to Salt or Not to Salt with which salt?"
Did you know that most table salts sold on the market are bleached, refined and mixed with anti-caking ingredients? Many also contain sugar (in the form of dextrose)? Look at your ingredients label and you may see calcium silicate, sodium silicoaluminate and potassium iodide.
Sodium is essential for the health of every cell in the human body as well as our blood and lymphatic system. We need sodium for the production of hydrochloric acid which is secreted in the stomach to digest protein. Along with potassium it is important for the functioning of our nerves and contraction of muscles.
Completely natural sea salt is what we recommend in our practice. It is the natural, unrefined form so it does not look sparkly white. You may find natural sea salt has small flecks of color which come from the natural trace minerals essential for many functions of the body.
We recommend everyone with high blood pressure consult with their healthcare professional on the consumption of sea (natural sea) salt. Our team is currently in the process of evaluating various natural sea salt products so check in with us soon for more information on how sea salt can help improve your function!

With all the hype and confusion in the public, we thought it would be appropriate to choose this next meeting (tomorrow at 6:30pm) to discuss the issue at hand. Bring your questions and clippings with you. This is a members only meeting but guests may come for free one time. We'll be following up on our discussion on detoxification as well.
You may want to visit the following link to view Dr. Mercola's commentary on Dr. Oz's media performance regarding the flu and Swine flu vaccine.
In a recent newsletter he states: "....in the journal Neurotoxicology just last month, the researchers found that primates injected with just ONE vaccine containing thimerosal suffered significant neurological impairment when compared with those who received a saline solution injection, or no injection at all.
The monkeys received a weight-adjusted amount of the vaccine preservative thimerosal, so each dose included 2 mcg’s of ethyl mercury. A human infant dose of thimerosal-containing vaccine typically contains 12.5 mcg, and most seasonal flu vaccines as well as the swine flu vaccine will contain 25 mcg of mercury per adult dose.
As a result, the macaques vaccinated at birth took more than twice as long as unexposed macaques to acquire three standardized skills typically used to measure infant brain development.
Despite the overwhelming evidence that has built up over the years, US health officials are still promulgating vaccines as the best solution to the flu.
Worse yet, in a nauseating twist, the state of Washington's Health Department has now temporarily suspended a rule that limits the amount of a mercury preservative in vaccines given to pregnant women and children under the age of 3, just so that they can start administering the swine flu vaccine to toddlers and pregnant women as quickly as possible…"
YOU NEED TO BE INFORMED. Please contact our office for information if you cannot attend this very important meeting tomorrow.

Last week, Dr. Zair and I headed up to Wisconsin. One of our main nutrition suppliers, Standard Process, invited us to tour their headquarters and farm. This first photo was taken inside the factory where they are funneling buckwheat, just harvested that morning to prepare for processing. Buckwheat is found in most of their supplements. If you are taking any SP products, just look at the label. It is a key ingredient for many of their supplements including Drenamin and Trace Minerals B12. We were then taken on an open bed truck through their organic farm and saw incredible green crops if alfalfa, Spanish Black Radish, Kale, Brussel Sprouts.. all the key phytochemical ingredients for immune support, breast cancer prevention, detox and many other functions.
The whole experience opened our eyes to their high ethical standards (they respect the environment through organic farming and recycling), clean (I mean clean) facilities and sophisticated operations. Meeting the staff and executives made us realize how much they care about their quality of products that make a profound impact on our patient's biochemistry.
We are introducing the Purification Program to our practice. I went through this cleanse with great results. Dr. Zair and I had a two day seminar there and developed a stronger understanding of whole food nutrition. More on this soon. If you are not receiving our newsletter, please contact our office and we will add you to the list. (There's a valuable coupon on the Purification Program).
PS: The wonderful weekend ended with an old fashioned country breakfast that included my favorite food. I indulged in German Potato Pancakes with fresh applesauce at Millie's. We then went to a famous Apple farm (the Elegant Farmer) known for their apple pie baked in a brown bag. Yummm. Time for a detox now.

Excited new members and guests joined us tonight as we launched the kick off for their new journey to wellness! Jackie, wellness coach and personal trainer, gave a web tour explaining all the features and functions of mycreatingwellnessspace.com. Did you know you can search your favorite sport or activity and the website will calculate how many calories "you" burn in any given time period? This info, of course, is based on your wellness assessment and reflected in your own portal to the site. You can also select a recipe and download the grocery shopping list with one click!
We talked about the state of healthcare today, the confusion and conflicting messages in the media. One great thing about our Club is that we educate and empower you to take control of your life, not tell you what to do, what to eat and how to count points. Success in achieving true wellness comes from a paradigm shift (how we think).
Education is power and strength comes in numbers. Our next meeting is September 21st. Call our office if you would like to sit in as a guest or if you have some questions. We would be glad to see you! (623) LP CHIRO.
If you've been dissatisfied with your health..what are you waiting for?

Last Monday we participated in BC Spas and Events' monthly women's wellness extravaganza at the Arizona Broadway Theatre. It was a great opportunity to tell people about the benefits of a healthy nervous system and what lifestyle practices are necessary to achieve the optimal health! Ta da! Introducing Creating Wellness - our 3 dimensional power program that targets physical, biochemical and psychological stress! It is a coached program that follows clients closely and helps them change their paradigm towards prevention, and away from reactive thinking. Many were intrigued with our sample assessment results which detailed the health status, lifestyle stresses AND the Wellness Quotient (WQ). Most wondered that their WQ is. The only way to find out is to undergo our comprehensive Creating Wellness Assessment in our office. (We actually did free lung capacity testing at the event- a small part of the actual exam) The results will highlight weak (and strong) areas so a specific, customized program is designed for the client.
We also introduced our new Creating Wellness Lifestyle Club which starts September 7th. Members will receive an initial baseline examination and of follow up exams every 6 months. It's a great way to get together with your friends and help support and motivate each other towards healthier habits. READ BELOW for specifics on this fantastic and affordable program!
Oh by the way, the theme was Margarita Madness, so hence the black attire and red flowers in our hair.

Last Wednesday we participated in the Aloha Fun Walk, sponsored by the City of Peoria, distributing valuable health information and doing free digital nerve scans. It's interesting watching people's reactions when they can see the link between their symptoms and the nerve stress, more importantly the "dysfunction" of their nervous systems and their inability to cope well with stress!
There were over 100 walkers, some walked over 4 miles (8 laps) around the upper level of the stadium. Jackie, our personal trainer led the entire group in some warm up exercises and stretches! That might have been her biggest class! Thank you Peoria Community Center for inviting us to help out!

We're all feeling the pinch right now. The bleak economy has made a profound impact on many people's spending decisions. Does it really make sense to continue to frequent your favorite coffee shop every morning when your budget has tightened significantly? How about brewing organic coffee at home instead? Limit your coffee shop splurge to a weekly meeting or an evening out. The money you save on brewing at home outweighs the per lb increase in cost for the organic beans. (The coffee bean is heavily saturated with toxins- pesticides and herbicides, so we highly recommend that if you drink coffee, drink the organic type.)
Now let's talk about prevention. Does it cost more to stay well or to get well?
Think about it. What does it cost you for a trip to the emergency or urgent care, not just financially, but mentally. What about the loss of work time? Emotional stress from the emergency itself? Besides an accident or trauma, most reasons for emergency visits could be prevented. People who live with healthy habits, take care of their bodies and their minds and seek regular check ups with their chiropractor are far more successful at avoiding unnecessary medical intervention. They are not on a laundry list of prescription drugs and of course, don't suffer side effects. Chiropractic is the only form of treatment that directly restores balance to the nervous system (without drugs or surgery), - the system that controls every function in the body! So wouldn't it make sense to make sure that the nervous system is in top form, especially during stressful times?
Make an appointment with your chiropractor today and discuss what you need to do to achieve optimal health and a better quality of life. It is especially during these stressful times when we need to invest in our health and focus on prevention. Without a healthy nervous system, one can fold under stress.

I often hear from patients who are on multiple prescription drugs that some of their doctors are not aware, nor do they ask about other drugs currently being used. That alone concerns me as a wellness doctor, especially when I think of the potential harmful interactions and side effects.
The tragic passing of the world's best entertainer, Michael Jackson, has unveiled such a dysregulated practice of multiple doctor drug prescriptions - as this is the strong suspicion that led to his demise. Celebrities can have anything at their beckoning call..including drugs, whether to mask the pain, put them to sleep and many other reasons. Dr. Deepak Chopra expressed frustration and anger over this situation on CNN and stated the doctors involved need to be identified. And I agree. The world lost a hero on June 25, 2009. (This is a difficult post for me to write since I had a brief personal connection with Michael in 1984 and I have always had an immense admiration for him. I am anxiously waiting for justice to be served). You may read my personal blog. www.drmelanie.wordpress.com for more details. As we wait for the final toxicology reports on his demise, we are saddened that he is gone, no matter what, no matter how. He was too young and his passing could've been prevented.
We are all not celebrities but my point is that ANYONE prescribed medications should research all drugs and stay informed. It is your responsibility. It is your life. Your body is your temple. You need to be your own doctor first. Don't be afraid to ask your doctor and pharmacist questions. It could save your life. Find a doctor who will listen to you, spend time with you, not rush you since he/she has a waiting room full of patients and the managed care system is paying the bill.
Death by iatrogenic causes ranks in the top five in the U.S. What more can we say?

Resveratrol is a potent anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-estrogen, anti-cholesterol, weight-controlling, blood pressure and blood sugar-normalizing agent. Resveratrol is the first natural medicinal to have solid evidence behind it showing that it blocks or stops many stages of cancer. Resveratrol not only prevents cancer, it’s being proposed as an additional treatment. [1-3]*
Now let's talk anti-aging. Does it seem too good to be true? Yes, of course, to many of us. But we're reading about it everywhere and watching the benefits on news report. In fact, just today the headline on yahoo.com features a You Tube clip of an interview with Barbara Walters and Dr. David Sinclair "Live to be 150. You can do it." Dr. Sinclair isolated the molecule from red wine and stated we would need to drink 1,000 bottles of red wine per day to experience the health benefits of resveratrol. It activates certain gene (the anti-aging gene)in our bodies. He hopes to get FDA approval in the next 5 years.
We have good news at Lake Pleasant Chiropractic and I know all informed natural health doctors would share the same news. Resveratrol does not have to be bottled into a pharmaceutical to provide the remarkable health benefits. We're been carrying resveratrol in our office for the past year and seeing the benefits ourselves. The natural extract is concentrated in "Resveratin" manufactured by Xymogen, one of our supplement lines we carry. We strongly encourage and emphasize that there is no miracle pill out there. This one may seem to be one. Our philosophy is that health is a journey, a participation sport between you and your natural health doctor (both on the same team of course). Health does not get handed to you in form of a pill potion or lotion. Implementing a healthy lifestyle involving physical, biochemical and psyhological strategies will have a synergistic effect on appropriate nutritional supplementation. Call us at (623) LP CHIRO for more information on Resveratin and our Creating Wellness Lifestyle Program.

Our third annual Balancing Female Hormones Workshop last week was a big success! We had over 20 people attend to understand the communication patterns among the hormones, brain and endocrine glands and simple lifestyle steps to take towards better hormone health. Gabi gave free chair massages during our breaks and our seminar attendees came with a thirst for knowledge and an interesting list of questions! Altogether we raised over $120 to support Bosom Buddies of Arizona, a non-profit breast cancer support group.
Every day more and more women are confused about what to do about their female symptoms, or more importantly, why these symptoms are so common. We're constantly bombarded with broad based media influences, many which usually includes a scare factor. A big reason for hormonal chaos is the environmental influence including our dietary habits. Last week at the workshop we made some simple corrections, handed out plenty of information on risks and benefits of various corrective measures and gave every attendee a comprehensive reference list. If you haven't visited www.mercola.com, I suggest you save this one to favorites! Dr. Mercola does a very good job at researching every health issue, drug claim, research article and provides direction towards natural resources.
My primary reason for investing the time and energy I do every year in this, is to raise the awareness that there are natural options to investigate (with a qualified health professional of course)before going down the invasive medical pathway. As a female doctor, I have even a higher level of interest in expanding my knowledge in this area.. as I help myself achieve balance, I can provide even better care and guidance for my patients. I'm now seeing an increased number of patients seeking wellness care in our practice besides pain care.. and that says a lot for the general public's realization that there's more to health care than symptom relief.
Nutritional consultation at our office include an initial 45min private meeting with me after submitting completed health history and assessment forms. I encourage new clients to also submit recent blood work, urinalysis and any saliva test results within the last six months. Please call our office for more information or to schedule your appointment.

"Since WWII approximately 87,000 new chemicals have been synthesized in the U.S. alone. New ones are being invented at the rate of 2,000 per year"
"The typical American home contains sixty-three hazardous products" (most of these hazardous materials are in form of cleaning supplies, lawn and garden products and automotive supplies.)
"Americans spend only 5% of their time outdoors, so indoor pollution are a major contributor to human exposure."
--Berkson, D. Lindsey, Hormone Deception,
Xenohormones are man made substances that are foreign to the body and have a hormone-like effect. Most of them have an estrogen-like effect and are called xenoestrogens.
In our practice we are constantly reminding our practice members how important it is to take every measure possible to minimize exposure to these dangerous chemicals. Let's think of the alarming rates of breast cancer, infertility, uterine fibroids, PMS issues etc. Do you think these environmental evils have something to do with this? Absolutely!
Read the ingredients labels not only on your food prodcuts but also your personal hygiene and household cleaners. Your body lotion or hair coloring products for example, may contain mineral oil, a cosmetic grade petroleum product which includes polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PHA's) which are estrogen mimickers in the body.
Your mouthwash may contain 27% ethanol, which is suspected of causing esophageal cancer and phenol, which can cause fatal poisonings if absorbed through the skin.
Become informed and aware of how you can minimize your exposure to these abundant environmental toxins. Join us next Wednesday for our Balancing Female Hormones seminar Wednesday June 10th at 6pm. We'll be sharing vital information that you need to know to become a better informed patient. This can be life saving information.
Call (623) LP CHIRO or (623) 572-4476 to order your ticket. Seating is limited and we have just a few spots left!

A couple of months ago, our wellness team made a very important decision in our practice. We wanted to find a way to continue to support our Creating Wellness graduates and others seeking health guidance at a low cost and on a convenient schedule.
But we wanted to make it fun, effective, motivating, not just a "sit in a circle and pour out your heart" format. Of course, we will listen because how else can we help?
Every day I encounter at least one person who experiences challenges, frustrations but has no direction or action plan for overcoming these. In my practice I hear it all the time.."Yes, I know I need to lose weight." OR "I know, even my medical doctor told me I need to eat better". But what IS eating better? You've tried several times and either you never lost the weight or you've lost it but gained it back!
With daily modern day lifestyle stress and especially the current economic strain on our financial health it's very difficult to maintain a focus on your own health and well being. This is why we offer the Creating Wellness program, our 3 dimensional lifestyle empowerment program that provides the tools and closely guides and monitors you along your path to wellness. Please don't mistake this for a weight loss program. That, it is not.
Weight loss comes from not dieting and exercising alone. The foundation on achieving healthy weight is achieving a paradigm shift- a different way of thinking. No, we don't brainwash people. We educate you, coach you, empower you and YOU create your wellness. There's a reason why there are currently over 300 Creating Wellness centers in North America, helping thousands achieve a healthier and happier life. Our program, unlike many wellness programs are doctor led and designed, and coaching is done by either the doctor or a certified wellness coach.
On July 6th we are launching our Creating Wellness Lifestyle Club. This is open to everyone. We will gather the first and third Monday of the month at 6:30pm at our wellness center. Members will receive a comprehensive wellness exam to determine their baseline health status and online access to mycreatingwellnessspace.com. They will also receive fantastic benefits in addition to inspiring discussions led by our team. Assessments will be done periodically to track progress. All this for as low as $34.95 per month! Can you forfeit one dinner out per month for an opportunity to finally get healthy? We also have plenty of great surprises planned for our launch event July 6th. Register by July 6th and get one month free plus a guest pass to bring a friend to a meeting!
What are YOU waiting for? How much longer do you want to hear yourself complain about your health, your energy, your life. Creating Wellness has changed many lives and we strive to provide the most effective experience for those seeking a better quality of life.
Please call (623) LP CHIRO and ask how we can help you get started on your new best life!

We spent our entire Sunday yesterday in a seminar on nutritional strategies for reclaiming cognitive and emotional health from stress and toxins. It was VERY interesting!
We now have more protocols to help our patients suffering from not just aches and pains but the depression associated with it, as well as sleep disorders, gastro-intestinal conditions, autoimmune diseases, ADHD, Autism, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and the list goes on and on!
Did you know?
Total Cholesterol and depression were inversely related? (the lower the total cholesterol, the higher risk of depression) Ann Behavioural Medicine, 2008 Aug;36(1)33-43
We are in the process of updating our nutritional intake forms and incorporating new assessments. Our functional blood chemistry and saliva analysis will be an added value to the assessment of our patients' status! Stay in touch for more postings with interesting facts and our calendar of events.
Our Creating Wellness Lifestyle Group starts July 6th. This is where we will be discussing topics such as this (cholesterol and depression) as well as sorting the confusion in the media. Call our office to set up your wellness assessment or for more info on our new empowerment group!

Chiropractic is at the forefront in the movement of wellness and prevention. Why? It addresses the nervous system.. you know, the central switchboard of the human body (brain and spinal cord) that controls EVERY function in the body.
Many people seek out chiropractors to help them remove interference to their nervous system and re-establish healthy communication between their brains and the rest of their bodies. This in turn, helps them adapt to the everyday stress we all encounter.. pollution, work, relationships, physical strains from modern day living. Do you know anyone who doesn't have ANY stress?
To explain it simply, chiropractic is preventative. It is also natural pain relief and a non invasive, drug free approach to getting your health back. It is a small and valuable investment in your health. Once you are sick, you just may face some expensive medical bills: a trip to Urgent Care or Emergency, medications, or worse down the road.. surgery. Expensive pertains to not just the monetary expense but the time out of work, the time out from fun and family etc. Many report to us that the mental emotional stress that comes from getting sick is worse than the financial stress.
Chiropractic patients we see are noticeably happier, more vibrant and are more motivated to take steps in Creating Wellness in their lives.
We decided to adopt a program to help our patients save even more money. CHIROPRACTIC LIFECARE OF AMERICA allow our patients to pay a low annual membership of $49.95 for their whole family and every member is entitled to a discount rate on spinal adjustments.. only $30 per adjustment. This in many cases is lower than some copays on an insurance policy. Please visit www.clahealthcare.com for more information.
Many people have signed up for this discount program and are enjoying the benefits of 50% off their initial examination fees and unlimited visits at a low cost, as well as discounts on acupuncture and our therapy services, including massage.
Call us at (623) LP CHIRO for more information. We're in the business to help you gain your health back and we want to make it more affordable in these tough economic times.

Late last month, Dr. Zair, my husband and partner, and I attended a seminar in Scottsdale and were part of a small group of doctors privileged to learn from Dr. Jeff Spencer! As the team chiropractor, he helped the United States Postal Service Cycling team achieve 8 consecutive victories at the Tour de France! As Lance Armstrong's personal chiropractor, Dr. Spencer worked with the team closely, keeping their spine aligned and nervous system optimally charged for the gruelling demands of the tour.
We spend a day and a half with Dr. Jeff, learning hands on techniques in cold laser therapy and assessment protocols. I have to say, it was an honor just to be in his company and pleasantly surprising how humble a doctor with such accomplishments can be. (He himself competed on the US Olympic cycling team in 1972.) We just scratched the surface on the science behind cold laser but as a patient myself of the treatment, I do feel the difference and my shoulder range of motion has improved even faster! (I have my rolfer, Mark Hutton to thank for that too! He is one of the very few in the Northwest Valley that integrates laser therapy in his office).
Stay tuned and we'll keep you updated on our experience with cold laser.

Last Sunday our team participated in the first annual Kids Camp USA 5K Run Walk at Thunderbird Paseo Park. The event raised money for underprivileged children to attend summer camp. This was "our" first event of this kind in which we got involved! Dr. Phil and Jackie walked the 3 miles (ok, partly ran it) and we're proud to say two of our patients ran the 3 miles. Congratulations to Heather W. and Brandi N. for a fantastic achievement and for helping to raise money for the cause! It was certainly refreshing to see the 100+ walkers/runners out that early (6:30am!) on a Sunday morning getting a workout and contributing to a BIG cause!
Gabi was busy doing chair massages on the well deserved participants. I had the opportunity to meet several runners and answer some interesting questions about chiropractic and wellness. What a georgeous day to be out and involved in a community effort such as this! Personally the experience further justified my pride in being part of the West Valley community!

Are you SURVIVING or THRIVING? We are constantly bombarded with news of the economic crisis, the layoffs, the stock market, etc, etc. It’s certainly a very stressful time for us. But our health is most important. If you don't have your health, what do you have? How can you work? play? enjoy life? Stress wears down the body and the mind. It is more important now more than ever to take measures to protect yourself. Even if you never had a consistent cardio workout, now is the time to start. If you always wondered about that healthy recipe a concerned friend gave you, now is the time to use it! (Think of the money you’ll save by eating more at home) If you’ve been planning on quitting smoking, now is the time to get help! And most importantly, if you haven’t been adjusted by your chiropractor in a while, well, imagine what that stress has been doing to your nervous system all this time. Your nervous system- the most critical system in the body! Remember it controls every function, every cell! So book that appointment soon with your chiropractor. Imagine the better sleep, the reduction in anxiety, the clearer mind, the improved energy and less pain with regular chiropractic care. I can go on and one about many “to do’s”. And we all have our lists. So make a plan and start checking things off now. And if you need help, call us! That’s what we do! There’s no time like the present. You’ll thank yourself one day…. I am sure of it. Dr. Melanie Dias-Zair

Many of us have been told, "It's just arthritis" or "It comes with age". Well, we don't have to accept that. I decided to talk about it and introduce another insight to this pandemic of affliction in our society. Are you tired of chronic pain beating you down and taking the enjoyment out of life?
We are hosting a FREE hour long workshop on this hot topic Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 6pm. Join us and bring anyone you know who experiences frustation with their health issues. We'll include some free tips on managing and preventing pain naturally. We can only squeeze a limited number of people in the room so please call (623) LP CHIRO and reserve your seat!

There's nothing more grounding and stress relieving than the practice of yoga. For thousands of years yoga has been practiced by many for its several health benefits.
Many studies have shown yoga can normalize blood pressure, ease chronic pain and promote sound sleep. Our wellness center offers a restorative traditional yoga class- no hot rooms, not exertion (power yoga). We chose restorative because many of us need to wind down at the end of a busy day. Jotina, our certified instructor, takes her students through gentle poses, some challenging to help them gain progress in their flexibility and balance. She is very in tune with the anatomy and alignment. Join us for an evening of relaxation and you'd be surprised how much better you will feel, and the improvement in your breathing and concentration. Our classes are in small groups so each student receives one on one attention from the instructor.
Tuesdays from 7:15pm-8:15pm
Classes are $16 each. Card of ten classes $130
Call our office (623) 572-4476 to reserve your space. YOUR FIRST CLASS IS ONLY $8.
Last Sunday (February 15th) we headed down to Westgate to greet the marathon and half marathon runners crossing the finish line! What an experience to be right there, seeing the emotions, the exhilaration, the accomplishments of the many participants. (It's given me the inspiration to get out and start running again!) We stood alongside volunteers from Walmart and hung metals around their neck. We had to be quick, especially since some runners stormed through the finish line....like our patient (we call them practice members, actually) Heather W! She actually snuck by and we didn't see her! And she didn't see us! Heather works for Marix Servicing and is also a realtor. Sorry we missed you Heather but we very proud of you and glad you didn't injure yourself of course! She completed the half marathon in approximately 2 1/2 hours! CONGRATULATIONS Heather!
IMS sponsored this event and we had such a good time we hope to play a bigger role next year. And we promise we'll be in the know and the lookout for all our practice members who participate in these amazing feats! We'll try to be there to support you!

Well, from the Peoria Sports Complex, we headed up to Marix Servicing, a mortgage servicing company, to give an ergonomic presentation "Stay Fit While you Sit". What a busy, fun day and we really enjoyed meeting the employees and learning about their work environment. I must say this company does take good care of their staff! The fact that they bring in speakers monthly to present topics from financial planning to healthcare tells us they make the effort to foster a healthy, motivating environment for their team. During our presentation we talked about the causes and effects of stress, and broke down the "workstation" into components (monitor, keyboard, chair etc), making simple suggestions to create a healthier workspace. Jackie taught them some easy, effective stretches and we then demonstrated the Insight Millennium Subluxation Station, our assessment technology used to detect nerve disturbance. Attendees were treated to a free chair massage from Gabi. Our goal was to give them some takeaway info they can immediately implement into their work space. A healthier employee is a happier and more productive employee!
Today was a beautiful day to be outside and give back to our community! We participated in Peoria Community Center's Step into Spring and performed lung capacity tests on over 25 active adults! They had just completed several laps around the Complex. What a way to start off the season! Gabi was on hand to give them a relaxing chair massage before lunch and Jackie facilitated the tests and educated them on the benefits of exercise. I, myself had the fun job of greeting, answering questions and sharing information about chiropractic and our wellness services. I think we were the most popular vendor table! It was nice to meet so many people who embrace fitness and health! One thing I noticed was more people this year were familiar with chiropractic more than any past event we attended! How refreshing! Many were happily surprised that Medicare covers chiropractic care. We plan to be at their next event in July, the Aloha Fun Walk!

Our very own Jackie Mueller of On the Ball Fitness presented to the Southwest Valley Express Network luncheon on the benefits of exercise for heart health last week! We all enjoyed a fabulous lunch, networked with other professional business owners and listened to a panel of speakers at the Tuscany Falls Country Club. My photos came out too dark so I added a photo of Jackie. She co-presented with a nutritionist and a cardiologist. Altogether they made a terrific case for why women need to pay attention to their health. Heart disease is currently the Number ONE killer of women. Do we need anymore reason than that to wake up and get moving? Jackie's main point that struck a chord in many of us was.. "if anything else, do it for yourself." Stop putting yourself last. A little exercise daily goes a long way! She gave a new meaning to listen to your heart. We're proud of you Jackie! Keep moving the world and getting people On the Ball!
Jackie teaches fitness classes at our Wellness Center every Tuesday at 6:00pm and Friday at 9:15am. For more information, call Jackie at 623-640-9112.

On January 9th,we hosted a Patient Appreciation Party in form of a Luau! Our team worked hard to pull it all together including decorations, food (yes, we prepared most of it). Dr. Zair's Hawaiian meatballs were a big hit. Over 30 people attended, some in Luau attire. Prizes were given out for best outfits. We did a drawing for a grand prize for those patients who brought a guest. Our winner, Danah F won a FREE chiropractic treatment, Free Swedish massage, Free On the Ball Fitness Class and a coupon for a yoga class! Talk about grand winnings!
It was a little chilly that night and surprisingly our tikki torches did not blow out from the wind. We plan to do it again next year but a little later towards the spring. We hope more of our patients will join us!
