Creating Wellness Empowerment Club heads to the Farmers Market!

Last Saturday, a few members joined us downtown at the Phoenix Public Market. Fresh organic produce (and I mean fresh!), wild salmon, farm fresh eggs, grass fed beef and gluten-free goodies were among our popular purchases. We lucked out with some beautiful sunny, cool weather and some growing tips from my favorite plant guys from Dos Arbolitos. One of our last stops was Double Check Ranch were we picked up our natural grass fed beef and natural chicken- (yes, we posed for a photo with the Double Check Ranch Cowboy!). What a nice way to spend a Saturday morning-surrounded by natural foods, great company and inspiration to support local growers and prepare healthier meals!
Find us on facebook to see all photos:

We had so much fun, we're planning another farmers market venture and a nature hike!

What is this website access all about?
Healthy recipes, a meal and activity journal, calorie burning counter, research articles and more!

What does this membership cost?
Only $34.95 per month - literally, barely the cost of one dinner out. Can you sacrifice that once a month to gain invaluable information that can enrich your life or even save it? Our membership is growing and we have limited space (maximum 15 people) to allow for a more dynamic and effective support environment.

Do I need to be a patient at your clinic to join?
No, this is open to anyone who wants to make a positive change in their lives!

Is this like a gym membership where I commit for a year?
No, no and no! We charge inital registration fee of $15 per person and 3 month payment in full to secure membership. Afterwards dues are billed monthly. You may cancel anytime after the third month. However, our current members enjoy it so much, they renew 3 months at a time.

How do I know if I will like it?
You don't. So we are offering you to come as a guest one time for free. If you enjoy it and see the value in what it can do for your life, then you are welcome to join, provided there is room left in the Club.

How often does the Club meet?
Twice a month. 2nd and 4th Monday evening 6:15pm. Members are given an email reminder the previous week and a schedule of topics covered in coming months.

How does this Club compare to the popular weight loss clubs?
First of all. This Club does NOT compare. It's in a league of it's own.
Creating Wellness Club is led by a qualified, trained wellness coach or a doctor. We're not certain if a qualified licensed health professional is advising you at those popular weight loss support groups. We focus on improving all 3 dimensions of negative stress (physical, biochemical and psychological). We don't just put you on a scale each week- you receive a complete functional examination. Weight loss programs are focused primarily on diet only.
AND.. from our research our membership cost is LESS than the popular programs.
Our club brings in qualified, doctor approved resources for it's members including guest speakers and we may even bring back a book club!
So do they compare?......Absolutely not!

What if I can't come to every meeting?
Don't worry, you won't be scolded, just encouraged to join us next time. You still have web access and you will be caught up on what you missed when you return. Remember, the meetings are the accountability factor..... 90% of success is showing up.

Are you running any specials?
If you register (pay membership) by September 10th you receive ONE MONTH FREE!

BUDDY UP! If you join and sponsor another member (friend, spouse etc) ANYTIME to the club YOU AND YOUR GUEST receive ONE MONTH FREE!

RECEIVE A 7 DAY FREE TRIAL TO OUR WELLNESS WEBSITE by calling 623-572-4476...... But don't delay. The early bird special is expiring in 2 DAYS!

But, what if I can't come on September 13th?
No need to worry. You can start up anytime afterwards. Each meeting covers different topics and we review previous material periodically.

What are our members saying?

""Creating Wellness Club is Creating Wellness in action! The Club is an enjoyable opportunity to learn more about how diet effects body chemistry, health, and how we can achieve our own health goals. In addition to reading and discussing a professional text, an activity in the last class was to prepare a vegetable not in our diet, discuss the experience, trade recipes, and prepare the dish for a pot-luck. Recommending THIS Book for Everyone with Thyroid Diseases or Concerns

Recently, when we do clinical histories in our patients we often learn many of them are on thyroid medication for hypothyroidism. This has become an increasing concern for us since our clinical training and research is demonstrating that most hypothyroid cases are NOT thyroid diseases but an autoimmune condition. Today in the U.S., most hypothyroid disease is actually Hashimoto's disease- an autoimmune condition which attacks the thryoid and as time goes on, starts attacking other tissue such as cartlage, myelin sheath, intestinal cells, pancreas, brain etc.

If you are one of our patients with hypothyroid or you are reading this and have been on thyroid hormones, we encourage you to demand antibody testing from your doctor. Ask for a TPO antibody(thyroid peroxidase) and TGA (thyroglobulin Antibody). Treating the thyroid alone is not effective when there is an underlying autoimmune disorder. If this can't be ruled out, then certain treatment protcols and lifestyle changes must be implemented.

The doctors at Lake Pleasant Chiropractic are trained in analyzing blood chemistry from a functional standpoint using lab references ranges to identify underlying conditions which explain symptoms when medical labs do not. It starts with an initial consultation in our office to learn your full health and treatment history in order to determine the specific lab tests needed.

We urge you also to read the following book, now known as the "Thyroid Book" It has helped many of our patients obtain a deeper understanding of their thyroid and immune saving information.

Book Title: "Why do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms When My Lab Tests Are Normal?"
Author: Datis Kharrazian, DHSc, DC, MS

In this book, the author explains:
- Why your thyroid problem won't show up on your lab tests.
- Why you continue to feel worse despite treatment.
- Why the thyroid gland is often the wrong target.
- What the real culprit of most cases of hypothyroidism is and how to address it.
- Why eating common food will keep you from getting better.

The Thyroid Book is available for purchase at our office (limited supply) or on Call (623) LP CHIRO or (572-4476) for more information or to set up a consultation to evaluate for any underlying conditions or concerns you may have about your health.

Doctors Advance their Training in Functional Endocrinology

After years of working with patients nutritionally in restoring their health, Dr. Dias-Zair and Dr. Zair returned recently from Los Angeles where they advanced their training in functional endocrinology with Dr. Datis Kharrazian.

What is functional endocrinology? It looks at the interactive pathways of systems in the body, not just the organ of interest. It evaluates and identifies subclinical patterns of deficiencies and excesses using objective testing such as blood chemistry, urinalysis, saliva testing and stool analysis.

Most patients who seek our health are those with symptoms of fatigue, weight issues, hormone imbalances. Identifying the underlying cause of these symptoms is the goal of functional nutrition. Restorative (not replacement) methods along with lifestyle interventions are used to help the patient recover and "get their life back."

Initial nutritional evaluations at Lake Pleasant Chiropractic include a thorough history, consultation, review of intake forms and functional testing to include lung capacity, tissue calcium testing, body composition, digital nerve scan (thermal and surface EMG) and more. This appointment lasts approximately one hour. During this appointment, the doctor may recommend lab testing to help determine what exactly going on. Often times patient tell us "My doctor said my blood test was normal but why do I still feel this way?" The answers usually lie in our functional lab interpretations and lengthy consultation where we take time to obtain a detailed history and listen to our patients.

Successive appointments are scheduled to monitor patient progress and response to protocols. Lab analyses are scheduled separately.

Lifestyle intervention is provided either through one on one consults with the doctor or our coach Creating Wellness Lifestyle programs.

For more information on functional nutritional services and current specials, please call our office at (623) LP CHIRO (572-4476).

Thermography Testing July 26th

Digital infrared therography testing will be available Monday July 26th 9am-1pm at Lake Pleasant Chiropractic. Tammy Leiner of the Longevity Center will be here to conduct breast, half body and full body scans.

Thermography is a safe, effective way to determine heat patterns in the body indicative of imbalances or disease. Many women are now turning towards thermography before mammography due to it's safety factor and ability to detect problems earlier.

Contact our office at (623) LP CHIRO (572-4476) for any questions or to reserve an appointment.

News Update: Doctors Studying Functional Endocrinology with Dr. Datis Kharrazian

Next weekend, Dr. Dias-Zair and Dr. Zair will be studying under Dr. Datis Kharrazian, the author of "Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms? When My Lab Tests Are Normal.". Dr. Dias-Zair currently runs the nutrition practice at Lake Pleasant Chiropractic and decided to advance her studies in endocrinology mainly due to the growing number of patients she is seeing with thyroid and several other endocrinology disorders- many of these patients, frustrated with the side effects from their current medical protocols.

Dr Kharrazian's eye opening book is available at our office for sale. It is currently the most popular read among our patients in understanding how their body works and why they have not successfully lost weight (among other problems). Please click here to learn more about this valuable resource and obtain an excerpt from the book.

Creating Wellness Club discusses Skin Health and Anti-aging.

Last Wednesday our Club met and had a wonderful discussion about natural skin care, sun exposure and Vitamin D. Many brought magazine articles to share some interesting facts and beauty tips. As you know our center advocates only 100% natural practices and products and now that we are one of the few sites to carry Devita Rx, it has made it easier to satisfy those clients with stubborn skin conditions and aging concerns. We also covered a chapter in Protein Power about CHOLESTEROL.. a fitting topic considering cholesterol plays a significant role in skin health.

Next meeting is May 26th at 5:30pm. We'll be continuing our discussion no skin and Dr. Dias will be talking about nutrition for your skin and sharing some Devita Rx samples. Members don't forget to bring your beauty products from home so we can read labels: one hair product, one body skin product and one face product. We'll be learning how to identify toxic substances in labels.

Guests: your first meeting is complimentary. It's a cozy comfortable setting, informal and fun. Come see what we are about and bring a friend or two.

Qigong Classes

We're off to a great start and this week is week 3 of 10 for our first Qi Gong series. If you are not familiar with Qigong, it is a very ancient highly respected health practice going back over 3,000 years. It is pronounced “Chee-Gung” and is a method of accumulating “life force” energy (known as Chi) and vitality through a unique system of internal exercise that can focus the mind’s intent or silence its chatter. Without the energy skill of Qigong, Yoga and Tai Chi are void of their real intended purpose, forming your personal connection to the infinite energy of the universe. This is not something considered as “New Age.” One hundred million Chinese begin every day with Qigong exercises to improve their energy fields and their overall health. Nearly a billion Chinese are obsessed with the health benefits of Qigong.

Join 8th degree black belt Master Instructor Michael Leone every Tuesday at 12pm-1pm for basic qigong classes. Our current students are already experiencing the de-stressing benefits of this wonderful practice.

We have just a few spots left in the class and remaining classes will be prorated based on your start date. Call us at (623) 572-4476.

Springtime Purification the Right Way!

Last Thursday, we held a special presentation on the benefits of proper nutritional cleansing. Guests and patients completed a toxicity questionnaire to determine the level of their toxic load. So, what does a good detox mean?
It's not fasting.
It's not drinking a nasty concoction.
Yes, it may involve potential "healing crises" such as headaches, fatigue, mood swings etc. But aren't a few days of this worth the benefits of experiencing improved energy, memory, motivation and weight loss?

We recommend a cleanse 2-3 times a year, particularly because we live in a toxic soup and lead fast paced lives. Stress coupled with some bad habits take a tremendous toll on our bodies, both mentally and physically.

Call our office for your own toxicity questionnaire. We would be happy to assist you in determining the right program for you that fits your lifestyle.

5 Steps to a NEW YOU!

So where are we with the New Year's Resolutions? If you made any, how are you doing? At our wellness center we don't believe in New Year's Resolutions. We advocate New Life Resolutions, which implies a permanent change, not a yearly repeat of empty promises.

Try these simple steps to create a better quality of life.. in other words: A New You!

1. Treat yourself occasionally. You deserve it. A pampering bath. A weekend getaway. A wellness makeover. Anything healthy to improve your well being.

2. Watch less TV. Studies link TV viewing to negative outcomes, not the least of which is obesity. Instead, spend more time reading or a fun activity with the family.

3. Try new healthy foods. Experiment in the kitchen a little. Purchase something new in the produce section, research its properties and a recipe and voila! You may have spiced up your culinary skills and found a new way to boost your immunity.

4. Take more walks. Even a 15 minute stroll can rejuvenate and refresh your mind and spirit. Walk in a scenic park or on a hiking trail. Surrounding yourself in nature has its health benefits and besides, it's free.

5. Live in the moment. Every now and then detach yourself from the deadlines and expectations you place on yourself. Take a deep breath and look around. Be grateful for what you have and appreciate the simplicity of life. Each day is a gift.

Would you like to learn more? Join us as our guest at our Lifestyle Wellness Club first and third Mondays at 6:30pm-7:30pm. It is a doctor led forum based on educating its members so they can make sensible decisions for better health. Share ideas, laughs, health tips and more. First meeting is free. Get empowered to take action! Call (623) LP CHIRO or (572-4476).

Chiropractic Adjustments for Babies?

Oh yes, you may not realize it but chiropractic care is extremely effective for the very young. The trauma of birth (whether a vaginal or C-section birth)produces significant stress on the baby's nervous system. This stress is represented by spinal subluxations (misalignments of their little vertebrae). And think about their long growing season in-utero. Abnormal positioning in the uterus, physical, mental, biochemical stress to the mother, also affect the fetus.

Chiropractors are trained in pediatric care and many have continued their learning through regular post grad education. How do we adjust a baby? After a skilled analysis, often using our fingertips- hence, very little pressure.
Many benefits to chiropractic care include increase in alertness, resolution of colic, better latch during breastfeeding, more sound sleep and overall a happier baby (and of course happier parents).

Andrew Tovin, a prominent researcher in birth trauma said "Survival of the newborn is governed mainly by the integrity and function of the vital centers of the brain stem." Brain stem is affected by the chiropractic adjustment.. Another published researcher, G. Gutmann documented a study of over 1,000 infants. He found that approximately 80% of all newborns had some form of nerve dysfunction.

Knowing this, a baby should be checked an adjusted as soon as possible after birth. Many significant health problems can be resolved and/or prevented.

Dr. Dias-Zair is trained through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association on the Webster Technique for pregnant moms and infant/pediatric care. Visit their website to read important information on healthy pregnancy and health infant/child care.

Q&A on Thermography January 18th at Lake Pleasant Chiropractic

Tammy Leiner of the Longevity Center is our guest speaker at our next Creating Wellness Club meeting. She will be making a brief presentation on the technology behind thermography and why so many people are seeking this safer option for screenings over mammography. Join us at 6:30pm for our club meeting- FREE of charge. Tammy will start speaking at 7pm. Spaces are limited so please contact our office rsvp (623)572-4476.

Next testing date is Monday January 25th. If you cannot attend her Q&A but would still like to schedule a scan please call Donna at our office.

How it works: State-of-the-art breast thermography uses ultra-sensitive infrared cameras
and sophisticated computers to detect, analyze, and produce high-resolution
diagnostic images of these temperature and vascular changes.

Detection: The procedure is both comfortable and safe using no radiation or
compression. By carefully examining changes in the temperature and blood
vessels of the breasts, signs of possible cancer or pre-cancerous cell
growth may be detected many years prior to being discovered using any
other procedure. This provides for the earliest detection of a breast concern as
possible. Because of breast thermography's extreme sensitivity, these
temperature variations and vascular changes may be among the earliest signs
of breast cancer and/or a pre-cancerous state of the breast.

Research: Breast thermography has been researched for over 30 years, and over 800
peer-reviewed breast thermography studies exist in the index-medicus.

In this database well over 250,000 women have been included as study
participants. The numbers of participants in many studies are very large--
ranging from 37,000 to 118,000 women. Some of these studies have followed
patients up to 12 years. Breast thermography has an average sensitivity and
specificity of 90%.

Research Results: Studies show that:

* An abnormal infrared image is also the single most important marker of
high risk for developing breast cancer

* 8 times more significant than a first order family history of the disease.

* A persistently abnormal thermogram carries with it a 22x higher risk of
future breast cancer.

* When added to a woman's regular breast health checkups, a 61% increased
survival rate has been realized.
